When I was a little girl I loved to visit my Grandma Orr over my summer break from school. She and I would have so much fun going to watch the latest chick flicks at the movies, shopping at the local antique shops, and baking in her kitchen. One of my favorite recipes she and I would make was called scotcharoos, I love their silly name and the tasty mix of chocolate and peanut butter with crunch of the rice krispies. This is the perfect summer recipe because you don't have to turn your oven on to make something special for your kids!

Scotcharoos
Ingredients 1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter
1 11oz. bag chocolate morsels
1 cup white syrup
6 cups Rice Krispies
1 11oz. bag butterscotch morsels
Directions
Combine sugar and syrup in saucepan. Bring to boil while stirring. Remove from heat and add peanut butter. Stir well. Add to Rice Krispies in large bowl. Mix well.
Spread mix evenly in a buttered 13 x 9 inch pan lined with tin foil.
Melt chocolate morsels together on low heat, stirring constantly, or in microwave, stirring every 30 seconds. Spread evenly on top of Scotcharoos.
When cool, pop them out of the pan by pulling on the tinfoil and cut into squares on a large cutting board.

ReplyDeleteI make these for every get together with friends and anytime I have to make bars for an occasion. I make them with Special K's instead of Rice Krispies. I promise if you try it you'll never go back ;)

ReplyDeleteit's a great recipe. We always use milk chocolate morsels. (semi-sweet is nasty) and it's light Karo Syrup if anyone is wondering about the white syrup.
