Envy my Kitchen

Hi everyone I'm Sarah and welcome to my kitchen. I'm 33, English and married with four little children. About 6 years ago, we moved out of London to an Edwardian house in the Cotswolds, England, which needed a complete overhaul.
We're about half-way through the whole process now, which I'm REALLY enjoying (apart from the dust and dirt under my fingernails!).
About four months ago, after being completely inspired by some of the great blogs out there, I decided to start my very own blog, Modern Country Style, to follow the renovation of our house. I called it Modern Country Style because I also want the blog to share everything there is to know about Modern Country interiors (at least that's the aim!!).
I absolutely love new Followers and will always try and answer any questions you have. I want people to feel right at home....as though they're pulling up a chair at my table and having a natter with an old friend.
Modern Country is such a great, family-friendly, easy style to work with. It takes everything that I find lovely about Traditional Country and gives it a pared-back, modern twist. Oooh, gorgeous!
When we moved in, our kitchen was dingy and orange. A bad, bad combination. I loved the cupboards and beech worktops in our kitchen but everything else was not at all my taste and a million miles a way from the Modern Country Style I wanted.
So.....here's what we did.
We replaced the hideous orange and blue tiles with gorgeous cream glazed ones.
We had wooden splash-backs installed.
We painted the walls Farrow and Ball's Blue Grey and White Tie.
The woodwork, which was varnished orangey wood is now gloss white (apart from the lovely natural wooden windows).
We changed the door handles.
We tiled the back doorstep with charcoal slate.
We moved our boiler and, in the newly created space, installed open beech shelving to match the worktops, which I've filled with a mixture of practical but lovely-to-look at items: antique jars, French mugs and a selection of jugs and recipe books.
Then I added gorgeous cherry red accessories with a country edge to them. It's the paring of these country accessories with the blue gray pared-back background and stainless steel items that makes this a Modern Country look.
I'm so thrilled with the changes we've made. I love cooking up a storm in here now. I hope you like it too! Do pop over to www.moderncountrystyle.blogspot.com to have a bit of a snoop around and don't forget to let me know what you think.
Thanks again for having me on Envy My Kitchen.
Sarah
